The Chronicle

It began on 24 September 1966

when Norbert Reinelt registered the newly founded table tennis section of the TuS 1860 Pfarrkirchen for the league matches of the 1966/67 season at the district assembly in Pocking.

The founding members Gieler, Höllerl, Kürzl, Petzi, Reinelt, Rudolf Sussmann and Zeininger showed considerable courage in doing so. After all, there were only 3 competition-ready players among them. Yet the freshly elected first section leader Norbert Reinelt was able to present a team at the start of the points round that not only gathered experience but also eagerly collected points.

Already in the following year, promotion to the district league (Kreisliga) had been achieved. Thanks to the rapidly growing number of active players, a 2nd team could be entered in the district class (Kreisklasse). The 1st team, with Mladek, Michael and Paul Ammer, R. Sussmann, Kürzl and Reinelt, continued its upward flight. Against strong, established competition it became champion undefeated and was promoted to the 2nd district league (Bezirksliga).

There were now 30 active members. A youth team and a women’s team, which however only stayed together for 2 years, entered competitive play. Training enthusiasm and comradely cohesion were held in high regard. The dynamic board under Norbert Reinelt now also forged supra-regional contacts with Upper Bavaria, Nuremberg and the neighbours in Upper Austria. New, strong young players from other clubs joined the section, and already now, just a few years after its founding, Pfarrkirchen developed into a table tennis stronghold. There were numerous victories and placings at championships and invitational tournaments, including at the international level. Among the club’s own events, the Conny Wirnhier cup tournament was launched, with the later Olympic champion as its patron. This event remained for many years the popular sporting meeting point of the Bavarian top class, with many national ranking players among the participants.
