Pfarrkirchen. The pleasingly good turnout and many “close matches” made the “7th Sparkasse Table Tennis Open” for women/men, girls/boys and senior men/women, jointly organised by the table tennis section of TuS 1860 Pfarrkirchen and the Tischtennis Förderkreis e.V. Pfarrkirchen in the multi-purpose sports hall at the school centre, a very exciting and overall successful tournament. A highlight that attracted table tennis players from Rottal-Inn and the surrounding area as well as from regions ranging from Upper Bavaria to the Upper Palatinate, and even from East Frisia and the Czech Republic – in total there were just under 60 entries for the youth, performance and age classes of this open tournament with ranking relevance (Q-TTR), led by top-class ball artists with corresponding point totals. The start of the tournament could thus take place in a joyful and eager atmosphere. The opening was conducted by the chairman of the table tennis support association, Bernhard Stüwe, and deputy district administrator Edeltraud Plattner (deputising for patron district administrator Michael Fahmüller), together with deputy board member Wolfgang Schmid of Sparkasse Rottal-Inn. The TTF chairman welcomed the participants who had already arrived – especially the young table tennis players, whose events were scheduled first. Stüwe was pleased about the broad participation across the age and performance classes as well as the wide-ranging supra-regional interest. He expressed heartfelt thanks to the Sparkasse and all the other sponsors of the tournament for their support – likewise to Willibald Bauer (LAC Arnstorf 1978) for the tournament management and the smooth running it ensured. Deputy district administrator Edeltraud Plattner highlighted the significant importance of such a large table tennis event for this sport in the town and the region. Her thanks went equally to TT section head Wilhelm Kolb and deputy TTF chair Elena Sussmann, with their respective helpers, for the staging and running of the event. On behalf of everyone, deputy board member Wolfgang Schmid of Sparkasse Rottal-Inn wished the tournament a good course, all table tennis players fair matches and much success – as well as the spectators plenty of excitement in the battle for point, set and victory. Singles and doubles events were played – pupils, girls/boys and senior men/women without seeding, while men and women played in performance classes according to Q-TTR. The results of the matches in the singles events are TTR-relevant. After many fiercely contested matches, again and again going to the fifth deciding set, deputy TT section head Beate Brandl and TuS chairman Horst Lackner, sports officer of the town of Pfarrkirchen, conducted the award ceremonies for each completed competition – they expressed their appreciation for the sporting achievements, presented winners’ trophies, medals and certificates as well as prizes; the winners and place-getters were also congratulated by deputy Sparkasse board member Wolfgang Schmid and deputy TTF chair Elena Sussmann, and some also by TTF secretary Christiane Schreiber. Many players have, to the organisers’ delight, already signalled that they would like to take part again next year.
