Pfarrkirchen. Wouldn’t that be something, to play table tennis “almost competitively” again, to compete against each other and have fun doing it – just like in the old days – thought Armin Köstler, a former TT player of the table tennis section of TuS 1860 Pfarrkirchen – and put it into practice as the first “oldie revival tournament” of the TT section. And the idea went down well too – the organiser was also able to enthuse the former long-standing active players Franz Bachmaier, Thomas Gründmayer, Mario Kroll, Walter Kroll, Andreas Maischberger, Markus Moosbauer as well as table tennis sports officer Erwin Wimmer, who still likes to help out when he is needed. Gerhard Erl took on the tournament management. The “fun tournament” gave everyone a huge amount of enjoyment – and it did not go entirely without sporting ambition either, so that the spectators, who kept cheering on the performers at the TT tables, had lovely rallies to applaud as well as exciting and also “close” matches to watch. After the draw, it first went into two first-round groups for qualification to take part in the final round or in the consolation round. In the lower consolation group the order in places 5 to 8 was finally Markus Moosbauer ahead of Andreas Maischberger, Erwin Wimmer and Thomas Gründmayer. In the upper final group Armin Köstler fought his way to 1st place thanks to the better set ratio and became tournament winner, Walter Kroll came 2nd – Franz Bachmaier even made it to 3rd place with a fun mini bat, and Mario Kroll took 4th place. Everyone was in such good form that a doubles competition was also played out, which Armin Köstler and Andreas Maischberger won. Section head Wilhelm Kolb, who was very pleased about this successful revival tournament, congratulated the victorious players and presented them with small gifts – his thanks went to Gerhard Erl for the tournament management. The TT section provided some refreshments during the tournament. Given the great mood, this is unlikely to have been the last such tournament event at the TT section.
