End-of-year celebration of the TuS table tennis section: review and prospects.
Pfarrkirchen. Class table tennis with very close “duels” for point, set and victory provided high drama at the club championship of the TT section of TuS 1860 Pfarrkirchen in the Alexi hall – in the singles Manfred Schille triumphed for the third time in a row and the winner’s trophy is now his, in the doubles Marius Jarzombski and Matthias Kolb won.
Excitement and fun, the joy in the sport of table tennis – that is what makes this club championship appealing. And the open draw behind the group heads is always good for one surprise or another. Together with the patron of the tournament, Kurt Vallée, TT section head Wilhelm Kolb welcomed the participants. “Exciting contests”, Vallée wished. When tournament director Gerhard Erl signalled the completion of the draw to Hannah Mayerhofer, the time had come: the section head and the patron wished the participants much success.
The doubles competition: Marius Jarzombski and Matthias Kolb prevailed in the final against Gregor Jarzombski and Armin Siebengartner. A play-off for third place was dispensed with, so that two third-placed doubles were on record: Martin Schneider/Peter Wolfrum and Albert Gschwandtner/Manfred Schille.
The draw for the singles tournament produced interesting constellations in the groups. Marius Jarzombski, Matthias Kolb, Manfred Schille and Armin Siebengartner reached the final round. The eventual tournament winner had allowed himself only one “dip”: Armin Siebengartner had managed to beat Manfred Schille. Schille gave nothing away in the final round and secured 1st place with wins. After equal points and sets, the head-to-head record decided the next places: Marius Jarzombski was second, Armin Siebengartner third, Matthias Kolb had to settle for fourth place. In the match for 5th place, Peter Wolfrum took the better placing with a clear win over Gregor Jarzombski. So far so good here, as far as the ranking goes.
“Gripping right to the end, a great tournament”, patron Kurt Vallée and TuS chairman Horst Lackner finally agreed together with section head Wilhelm Kolb – this trio also carried out the awards ceremony: for the top places there were trophies and prizes; with the presentation of the large challenge trophy to the 2014 club champion, Manfred Schille, who may now keep this trophy after his third title in a row, the tournament was officially over. There was still joint celebrating in a cheerful get-together. Section head Wilhelm Kolb warmly thanked the diligent helpers: Manfred Schille for organisation and preparation, Gerhard Erl for the smooth running of the tournament, and Wigbert Bichlmeier for the flawless refreshments. TuS chairman Horst Lackner, like the patron, expressed thanks to all the volunteers of the TT section for their efforts. Lackner also highlighted the sporting base in the club, for instance particularly with regard to the promotion of youth.
At the Christmas and end-of-year celebration of the TuS TT section at the country inn “Zur Hecke”, to which section head Wilhelm Kolb also warmly welcomed the patron of the TT club championship, Kurt Vallée, both the completed first half of the 2014/15 season and the conclusions to be drawn from it and the prospects on offer were discussed. The first-half results of the men’s teams cannot be satisfactory, as section head Wilhelm Kolb made clear on the basis of the table positions: the 1st team sits in the strong district league 1 in 8th place, the 2nd team (with young players such as Johannes Apfel and Simon Wasmeier) sits in district league 2 in 7th place, and the 3rd team has unfortunately not yet got beyond 9th place in district league 3 North. A stronger focus on the best possible core line-ups and a more sensible use of the supplementary players in the second half of the season should ease and improve the situation to the extent that the classes can at least be held for now. Further considerations must then be discussed within the board and the group of players.
There were pleasing aspects too: at the seniors’ championships in Arnstorf, Manfred Schille and Peter Wolfrum won the team tournament; Schille also won the singles in the 50-year-olds’ class, Wolfrum came third. At the district championships, also in Arnstorf, Peter Wolfrum and Marius Jarzombski won the doubles in the B class – in the singles Jarzombski was second, Wolfrum fourth.
And the “TT youth” is currently mostly doing especially well – here in brief the state of affairs after the first half of the season: boys I in district league 2 with 18:2 points in 2nd place, boys II in district league 1 with 12:0 points “winter champions”, boys III in district league 1 in 5th place – plus fine tournament results at district level and quite respectable placings at regional level. All in all a good basis for further successes.
Patron Kurt Vallée expressed his appreciation to all the players for their sporting performances and to those responsible for their commitment – he wished the teams a successful second half of the season. Section head Wilhelm Kolb thanked board members Rainer Bloch (deputy section head), Beate Brandl (youth manager), Hannah Mayerhofer (deputy youth manager) and Gregor Jarzombski (secretary), as well as team captains Gregor Jarzombski (men’s team I), Johannes Apfel (men’s team II) and Martin Schneider (men’s team III) for their help – as well as those who could not come: treasurer Andreas Maier, Marion Fuchs (membership administration), Manfred Schille (organisation), sports officer Erwin Wimmer, equipment officer Christian Hölzlwimmer, the team captains of the youth teams (Walter Fischer, Markus Rueß, Eugen Flat) and youth coach Gerhard Erl. His thanks went to Stefanie Kolb (keyboard) for the wonderful musical accompaniment and framing of the celebration.
