With a season-opening tournament under the motto “For the joy of sport”, the table tennis section of TuS 1860 Pfarrkirchen has kicked off the 2012/13 season. Pleasingly, players of all age groups from the youth to the seniors took part. As a result, and given that the draw was made without a seeding list, this produced interestingly mixed first-round groups and, subsequently, exciting placement matches.
In the final round of the three group winners, Mannfred Schille (men’s team I) prevailed against Uwe Neubauer (men’s team II) and Johannes Apfel (boys I). Section head Wilhelm Kolb presented them with small prizes – after all, things just aren’t complete without “trophies”, even when the fight for victory is purely for the joy of sport.
The other participants: Peter Wolfrum, Reinhard Kroll, Helmut Köstler, Rudolf Sussmann, Simon Wasmeier, Albin Abdulahu, Albert Gschwandtner, Andreas Maier, Matthias Kolb, Martin Schneider, Horst Benzing and Gregor Jarzombski. Places 4 to 15 were also played out in placement groups, in each of which three players competed against one another according to their first-round results.
Sociability was not neglected either – refreshments were also provided – and over the course of the tournament a number of table tennis friends dropped by to watch and have a chat. A successful table tennis festival, everyone agreed.
