In the singles, a single ball decides victory and placing!
Arnstorf. “Altogether a lovely tournament”, the top players of our TuS table tennis department, Manfred Schille (left in the photo) and Peter Wolfrum, are beaming in agreement about the district championship of the table tennis seniors hosted by LAC Arnstorf, above all because they won the title in the team competition and dominated the AK50 in the singles – Manfred as champion and Peter in third place.
Manfred Schille and Peter Wolfrum really enjoyed the team competition, in which they were able to knock the no. 1 doubles of LAC Arnstorf, Andreas Bachmeier/Siegfried Bloos, straight out of the competition and ultimately also became champions – they relegated Bernhard Knönagel/Rudolf Fraunhofer (SV Pocking/TTC Eggenfelden) to 2nd place.
The tournament came to its most exciting climax in the AK 50: Bernhard Knönagel (win against Wolfrum), Manfred Schille (win against Knönagel) and Peter Wolfrum (win against Schille) were ultimately level on points with 2:1 wins each and also tied with the respective set ratio of 8:5 – all three had won their other matches 3:0 and had each played 3:2 against one another. So balls had to be counted – with the narrowest of all results, because Manfred Schille is district champion by only a ball ratio of +5 to +4 ahead of Bernhard Knönagel, SV Pocking; Peter Wolfrum came third with his ball ratio of -9. Rudolf Fraunhofer took fourth place.
To their conclusion, “a lovely tournament”, Manfred and Peter add “even if somewhat sparsely attended” – rightly so, because this district championship of the seniors, organised by the tireless Arnstorf chairman Willibald Bauer, really ought to find greater support!
