- Tournament report 14 April 2012 –
The championships, once again excellently organised by SV Julbach, produced very good results for our department. In consultation with the players, seniors officer Willibald Bauer – Arnstorf – determined in advance that age groups I and II – 40 and 50 years – as well as III and IV – 60 and 65 years – would be combined, since otherwise too few players were represented in the respective classes.
In addition to these matches, which are also relevant for the TTR ranking system, a 2-player team tournament was traditionally held again, played across age groups.
In this competition, our team Manfred Schille/Rudi Sussmann took a very good 2nd place behind the players Mayerhofer/Westermayer of host Julbach, who have been outstanding in recent years.
The following official championship matches were exciting and produced quite a few surprises.
In age group I and II, Manfred Schille – TuS – won ahead of Walter Mayerhofer. The big surprise in this group, however, was Karl-Heinz Haas from Eggenfelden, who, as a player of the 3rd District League, beat Hans Westermayer, who was unbeaten in the 2nd District League in the second half of the season – thus a big favourite was out of the running. Peter Wolfrum came 5th, actually played very well and could well have finished further up.
Manfred played as confidently as ever and had no major problems in the final winning the title.
In age group IV, Reinhard Kroll was the only player represented, thus already had his “title” in this age group secured. As mentioned at the start, however, this group was combined with AK III. Here Rudi Sussmann won his 3 matches and thus became district champion in AK III.
Among the seniors over 70 years – AK V – Helmut Köstler and Norbert Reinelt were at the start for us. In this class, Ernst Schröter of SV Pocking won – perhaps somewhat surprisingly – once again, narrowly ahead of Norbert Reinelt. Helmut was not quite on such good form and came 5th. Once again great successes for us; next year Arnstorf hosts this popular tournament.
